How to choose your SAT date

  • Work back from your earliest college deadline. Early Action and Early Decision deadlines are usually November 1 or November 15 of senior year.
  • Plan for two attempts. Most students improve on a second sitting, so take the first test early enough to leave a later date free.
  • Leave enough preparation time. Most students need about 12 to 16 weeks to prepare from the start, or 4 to 6 weeks for a smaller improvement.
  • Avoid weeks packed with school exams, AP tests or major events.
